Bicycle Accidents

The Roads

are often Not safe

What is the chance of having a bicycle accident?

Cyclists are recognised in the Highway Code as vulnerable road users. Sadly, very often they are involved in road traffic accidents in high numbers.

Who can make a claim?

If this happens to you, you may be entitled to claim compensation for injuries and other losses, such as damage to your bicycle, your property and lost earnings if you are having to take time off work.

Even if you may be partly to blame for the accident, you can still make a claim.

Your Health and Safety is important

Roads should be safe for everyone

Bicycle Accidents

What to do if you find yourself in such situation:

You should, if possible, take pictures of the accident location, your bicycle, and any damage to the other vehicle.

If there are witnesses, see if you can get their contact details, and if the police attend, you should make a note of their details too.

Accidents can also happen due to defects in the road, such as a pothole. You cannot be expected to look to the ground at all times whilst riding your bicycle and the highway authorities have a duty to inspect and maintain the roads, to ensure that they are safe for us to use.

Quite often, the cause of an accident might be that the vehicle driver failed to give you enough space.

Other times, cyclists are injured when somebody sat in a vehicle opens the door without checking oncoming traffic properly.

If you are the victim of a hit and run, you could still make a claim for compensation.
